Background of the Study
Digital political content plays a crucial role in shaping public opinion, particularly when disseminated through government information campaigns. In Port Harcourt, a government agency has launched an initiative aimed at enhancing transparency and public understanding of policy reforms. This campaign employs a range of digital content—including infographics, video briefings, and interactive Q&A sessions—to present policy details and address public concerns (Chukwu, 2023). The study examines how this digital content influences public opinion by providing clear, accessible, and timely information. It investigates the content’s design, messaging clarity, and user engagement to determine whether it fosters informed opinions among citizens. At the same time, the study addresses challenges such as the potential for digital misinformation, content fatigue, and the varying levels of digital literacy among the public. By combining content analysis, user surveys, and engagement metrics, the research aims to offer insights into how government information campaigns can better utilize digital content to shape public opinion positively and support informed decision-making (Chukwu, 2024).
Statement of the Problem
Despite significant investments in digital political content, there is limited understanding of its effectiveness in shaping public opinion during government information campaigns in Port Harcourt. The challenge is to determine whether such digital content improves public understanding and support for policy reforms or if it is undermined by misinformation and low digital engagement. Inconsistent messaging and varying levels of audience digital literacy further complicate efforts to achieve the desired impact (Chukwu, 2023). This study seeks to address these challenges by evaluating the influence of government digital content on public opinion, providing evidence-based recommendations for enhancing future information campaigns (Chukwu, 2024).
